Needed urgently: home for a lovely young dog in London E17.

This is Alba. Alba is just under a year old; she's a husky/collie cross. Alba desperately urgently needs a new home as her owner, arkady's daughter, has been told by the landlord that she will be evicted if Alba isn't rehomed immediately. He is not prepared to wait until Battersea can take her in on 17th February.

She's currently in our small, cramped house, and this is basically infeasible. We need to find her a home as absolutely soon as possible, as in days (tomorrow would be good, yesterday would be better).

She's a lovely friendly dog, very smart and energetic, very playful, a bit boisterous to be around small children (needs some training) though our 6yo loves her. Needs a lot more walking than she's been getting. She is also gorgeous and an utter chick magnet.

If you or someone you know can offer Alba a home, please email me — dgerard@gmail.com.

We have this community. Feel free to post stuff. And to publicise it - I might put it about on Twitter.

Petition to reinstate the rail link between Chingford and Stratford
From the petition's author: "The scheme would require the re-opening of the Hall Farm Curve track beyond St. James Street.

The service would provide a valuable interchange at Stratford with the Central, Jubilee, DLR and overground services. A real benefit to East London!"

E17 Cinemas
Found this looking for photos of the refurbished Empress on Hoe Street (now the Kingsway International Christian Centre) as the KICC have not updated their website with info or photos of the new centre.

Some familiar sights there, interesting that there was an older cinema on the site of the Granada (EMD) and that the building housing the Abbey Dental Group at St James Street was originally a cinema! Not to mention the Wood Street arcade!

Does anyone know of a reputable Garage in or around the Stow?

Reputable, as in, honest nice professional people who don't charge over the odds or try to rip you off.

I need to get my MOT done, and did have a brilliant mechanic but he's moving to Australia. :-(

Current Mood: curious

Are you able to adopt a kitten?
The Goddard's Veterinary Group clinic in Grove Road, Walthamtow has always provided a fantastic service to our pets.

Currently they have nine kittens needing rehoming, including three that were brought in while my housemate was there this afternoon, getting the stitches removed from one of our cats. We already have four, so we're not able to take one ourselves, unfortunately.

i won't be in london for christmas, but i shall be arriving shortly afterwards, and i'll be there for a week (actually more like a week and a half).

anyone want to meet up and go to the pub (or do something else of interest)? i seem to remember a certain gastro-pub and micro-brewery meeting a couple of years ago...

note: i'll be very poor, due to recent illness and loss of job, but that shouldn't be a problem, as this soon after christmas everyone's poor, right?

if no-one is free, then any suggestions to what i should do and where i should go, or shall i just huddle indoors, avoiding the big cold place?

another note: i already have new years eve planned - i'll be at from dusk till dawn (which is basically kryptorium under another name) at the london stone...

Update on the Walthamstow cinema
"The McGuffin Film Society can confirm that serious bids have now been made for the EMD Cinema with a view to reviving the venue as a place of entertainment. News updates will be posted regularly on this website. "

The former Granada/EMD was finally put up for sale by tender by the UCKG in October and the deadline for bids was on the 18th of November.

A Guggenheim on High Street
Several people have been agog at the sign at the former Post Office site's corner announcing a Guggenheim coming soon. However, the explanation is somewhat mundane.

EMD Cinema Put Up For Sale
From http://www.mcguffin.info:

Walthamstow’s historic EMD Cinema has been put up for sale by current owners The Universal Church of The Kingdom of God (UCKG).

The EMD Cinema and the adjoining Victoria public house are being sold via Mayfair-based estate agents Humberts Leisure who are inviting offers for the freehold property by 18 November. The EMD was valued at £1.5 million by the London Development Agency last year following an independent assessment. UCKG purchased the cinema at a cost of £2.8 million in January 2003.

The EMD was purchased more than two years ago by the controversial church group who planned to convert the cinema into a place of worship. Following a lengthy campaign by the McGuffin Film Society, a public inquiry was held by the Office of The Deputy Prime Minister which ruled that the building was unsuitable for church use and should remain as a cinema.

Humberts Leisure can be contacted on 020 7629 6700. "

I so hope the UCKG lose out on the sale!

What I love about Walthamstow

  • the geese that fly overhead at dusk on their way home

  • the Lea River and its marshes

  • Epping Forest

  • the friendliness of many of its people and the multiculturalism

  • St. Mary's and the Ancient House

  • What do you love about Walthamstow?

No one seems to have posted to this community in a while. I just noticed it :)

I am currently studying away from London, but am originally from Walthamstow. It rules.

Request for Local Assistance.
Hey everyone, name's Ben and I'm planning a small music video for a uni project. Thing is, my main character lives in Walthamstow. Somewhere I've never been or seen. I'm looking for locations, really.
The character lives in a council flat. Are there any?
She goes to a small nightclub. Likewise?
She works probably in a shop or something like that, but it's go to seem like a train journey away. Anyone know of or work in one where getting shoot permission might be made easier?
Only other location I'm scouting is a street at night, which I can't imagine will be too hard to find (at the right time of day).
Any ideas, thoughts, comments, and other things please comment.
Thanks in advance.
